Embark on an exploration of the rich and complex history of maize in the Southwestern US and Northern Mexico. This workshop combines archeobotanical investigation of ancient maize remains with a celebration of traditional foods, revealing the deep and enduring relationship between ancestral communities and this vital staple.
Presenters:
- Luke Moreno: Sonoran Yaqui farmer and seed keeper, whose extensive research into the archeological record of maize remains provides a deep understanding of its history and cultural significance. He is also passionate about traditional foods and food sovereignty.
- Kelatztli Mendoza: Yaqui, Hñähñu seed keeper, weaver, genealogist, educator, and herbalist, with a BA from Columbia University in Biology with a concentration in comparative ethnic studies.
