Analysis of Traditional Foods from Archeological Record

Embark on an exploration of the rich and complex history of maize in the Southwestern US and Northern Mexico. This workshop combines archeobotanical investigation of ancient maize remains with a celebration of traditional foods, revealing the deep and enduring relationship between ancestral communities and this vital staple.

Presenters:

  • Luke Moreno: Sonoran Yaqui farmer and seed keeper, whose extensive research into the archeological record of maize remains provides a deep understanding of its history and cultural significance. He is also passionate about traditional foods and food sovereignty.
  • Kelatztli Mendoza: Yaqui, Hñähñu seed keeper, weaver, genealogist, educator, and herbalist, with a BA from Columbia University in Biology with a concentration in comparative ethnic studies.
